Community leaders, non-governmental organisations, municipal representatives, government stakeholders, and private sector partners gathered in Danielskuil on 4 March 2026 for a strategic stakeholder engagement hosted by Khulisa Social Solutions as part of the Northern Cape Empowerment Endeavour (NCEE). 

The session gathered key individuals from across the community to review research findings and discuss collaborative approaches to the region’s social and developmental issues. The engagement is part of Khulisa’s wider effort to strengthen community ecosystems in mining-adjacent towns through its Collaborative Implementation Model (CIM), which combines dialogue, research, and capacity-building to support long-term community resilience.  

During the session, stakeholders confirmed that the findings presented reflected the lived realities of the Danielskuil community. Key issues identified included youth unemployment, substance abuse, gender-based violence, infrastructure vandalism, and the increasing vulnerability of young people in the area. Participants also highlighted fragmentation among institutions and the resource constraints faced by local NGOs, which often serve as the frontline providers of social support.  

Feedback collected during the evaluation process showed strong support for the approach presented by Khulisa. Participants observed that the use of research, community dialogue, and trauma-informed frameworks helped them better understand the root causes of many social issues affecting Danielskuil. In particular, the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) framework resonated deeply with stakeholders, who recognised the importance of early intervention and safeguarding programmes for children and youth.  

The presentation evaluation also highlighted the importance of better cooperation among NGOs, government departments, municipalities, and private-sector partners to ensure resources are more effectively coordinated and community projects are aligned. Participants showed strong interest in contributing to future initiatives, including dialogue circles, youth programmes, infrastructure planning discussions, and safeguarding initiatives. 

As a next step, Khulisa Social Solutions will organise a pilot series of structured dialogue circles in March, bringing together NGOs, municipal representatives, SAPS, corporate partners, and community leaders. These sessions will employ a Systematic Inventive Thinking (SIT) methodology supported by AI-assisted analysis to explore systemic challenges, identify root causes, and develop practical, collaborative solutions. 

The dialogue process will contribute to the development of a community action roadmap to strengthen coordination among stakeholders, enhance local NGOs’ capacity, and identify opportunities for sustainable social and economic development in Danielskuil.

The opportunity now is to align stakeholders and resources to prevent escalation and strengthen community resilience. Real solutions emerge when communities, institutions, and partners work together to address the systemic drivers of social challenges.” 

The Danielskuil engagement marks an important step in building a coordinated development pathway for the community and strengthening collaboration across sectors. 

The Northern Cape Empowerment Endeavour aims to position Danielskuil as a prototype for stabilising collaborative ecosystems in mining-adjacent communities across South Africa.
