WORKING WITH THE LGBTQI+ COMMUNITY, SCHOEMANSDAL

15 years ago, Lydia Sono joined Khulisa as a youth leader in our Make It Better (MIB) programme, a youth development programme, during which time she became a highly recognised advocate for the LGBTQI+ community not only in Schoemansdal, but nationwide.

Over the past four years Lydia has benefitted from the mentorship of BBC journalist Francis Whatley who has contributed significantly towards her growth.  Says Francis, “My relationship with Lydia has broadened my horizons and has provided me with valuable insights into the challenges that this sector of society face. I would recommend mentorship to anybody who is looking to add value to the lives of those less fortunate than yourself.”

Lydia recently registered her own NGO, The Lydia Sono Foundation.
